Because of You: A Young Man Found His Strength Again
Today something remarkable happened, something small on the surface, but life-changing for a young man who carries far more than most adults ever will.

Sixteen-year-old Frank came to one of our Refugee Youth Mentoring workshops, where he explored Virtual Reality career simulations and participated in a mental health session. In VR, he dove into medical careers – his dream path – and he was so absorbed he could have stayed there all day. For a moment, he was allowed to imagine a future shaped not by his responsibilities, but by his possibilities.
For those who know Frank’s story, you understand the weight he carries:
He is the primary caretaker for his disabled mother and his 6-year-old brother.
He cooks, cleans, helps with schoolwork, helps arrange medical appointments, manages homework, and is trying to learn to drive — all on almost no sleep.
The world has asked far too much of him far too soon.
But today was different.
During his session with Lubna, after identifying his strengths and allowing himself to talk — more than he ever has in a group before — Frank said something that made our whole team pause:
“Today I feel more powerful.”
Those five words remind us of what even a couple of hours of support, encouragement, and connection can mean for a young person carrying so much.
And while our staff showed up with skill and compassion,
This moment didn’t happen because of us alone.
This happened because of you.
Because of your support, Frank had access to VR career exploration.
Because of you, he sat with a trained mental health professional who helped him feel seen, heard, and strengthened.
Because of you, we were able to bring together a team that worked as one.
Your support creates spaces where young people like Frank can lay down their burdens, even briefly, and rediscover their power.
Never underestimate the impact of showing up.
Never underestimate the hope you spark when you believe in someone’s future.
Because of you, Frank walked away feeling stronger — and that strength will carry him into tomorrow.
