Samaritas Family Center provides a safe place to live for families experiencing homelessness in Westland Michigan. The Family Center provides 24 family rooms for two-parent households, single mothers and fathers with children, and pregnant women. Families find a safe, comfortable, temporary home in Samaritas’ shelter where they can stay for up to 90 days, after which time they are gifted the new bedding provided to each member of their household when they first arrived.

Help for homeless families in Michigan is always needed and welcomed.

Like many homeless shelters in Michigan, the Samaritas Family Center shelter heavily depends on the generous contributions and volunteer efforts of local communities.

If you would like to help, you can make a monetary donation, donate items, or donate your time to our Westland homeless shelter. No contribution to our Wayne County shelter is too small.

We currently have an urgent need for twin bed sheets for families at our Westland homeless shelter. Please complete and submit this in-kind form to donate linens or any other items. Thank you for your support!

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

TEFAP provides commodity foods to eligible low-income residents in western Wayne County and in the downriver areas. Items are distributed at over 30 sites throughout these areas. No pre-registration or documentation is required.

You must certify that you are eligible for the program upon receipt of the items. Eligibility for TEFAP is based on the need for emergency food, and the household meets these income guidelines or participates in SNAP, WIC, FDPIR, CSFP, or a child receives free/reduced meals at school.

Share this flyer and list of distribution sites with others. Email us at freefood@samaritas.org or call us at (734) 721-4470 for more information.
