Samaritas ambassador Ernest Hausmann and his Journey to Change Lives

When Michigan linebacker Ernest Hausmann runs onto the field, the energy is electric — but his story began far from the roar of 100,000 fans. Born in Uganda and adopted into a Nebraska family as a child, Ernest’s journey has always been defined by resilience, faith, and gratitude. He doesn’t see adoption as a rescue story — it’s a story of rebirth.

“Adoption has done so many amazing things in my life,” he often says, “and it’s given me a new way to see the world.”

That perspective now fuels a mission larger than football. As an Adoption Ambassador with Samaritas, one of Michigan’s leading human service agencies, Ernest is lending his voice and his heart to children still waiting for families of their own. For him, the partnership is more than a cause —it’s a calling. He knows what it feels like to be given a chance, and he’s determined to pass that forward. Through speaking engagements, campus outreach, and his growing platform, he reminds others that every child deserves to be seen, chosen, and loved.

But Ernest’s story doesn’t stop there. With his Life Beneath the Well Foundation, he’s turning compassion into action — drilling wells and delivering clean water to communities across Uganda. On a recent trip, he watched as children filled their hands from a fresh stream, their laughter echoing the same hope that carried him across an ocean years ago.
